Six killed in violence in Jammu & Kashmir

At least six persons, including a police sub-inspector, were killed and five others injured in J&K.

At least six persons, including a police sub-inspector, were killed and five others injured in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

Suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists shot dead SI Mohammad Jamal at Hazratbal chowk, near the famous shrine, in Srinagar, a police spokesman said.

In two other incidents, terrorists fired upon two CRPF personnel at the busy Kokerbazar and a policeman at Shalikadal in the city within an hour.

Head constable KN Mishra succumbed to his injuries, while two other constables Akelash Kumar and Fayaz Ahmad were critically injured, he said.

Meanwhile, a Special Police Officer, Dian Chand, was killed when terrorists ambushed a police patrol at Sajjan village in Doda district on Thursday.

Two unidentified terrorists were also killed and an Army jawan injured in a gunbattle during search operations at Dachin in Gool area of Doda district, the spokesman said.

In another incident, terrorists abducted and later beheaded a youth identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district.

Mir, a shawl trader, was abducted by gunmen from his house at Gulab Dajan and his body was recovered from a nearby area early on Thursday, he said adding the motive behind his killing was not known immediately.

Security forces also foiled a possible bid by terrorists to attack Jammu city by recovering IED weighing 2.5 kgs from Chowadi area in the city on Wednesday night during a search operation, official sources said.
