At least six Maoists were killed in a gunfight with police in a forested area of Bihar on Saturday, police said. A guerrilla was arrested and arms and ammunition recovered from the site.

The incident took place at Majhadih, a forested area in Banka district, about 150 km from Patna.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined force of local police and central paramilitary forces surrounded the rebels and in the gunfight six Maoists were killed, a police official in Banka said.

Police have recovered 200 live cartridges, one AK-47 and two SLR rifles, a police official said.

A combing operation has been launched against the Maoists.
