Six more counters to meet demand for visas

The US Consulate adds six more counters and brought in 20 visa officers on a temporary basis to meet the increasing demand for US visas.

The US Consulate has added six more counters and brought in 20 visa officers on a temporary basis to meet the increasing demand for US visas, Frederick J Kaplan, Consul for Public Affairs of the consulate, said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference, he said that visas were now being issued within a week. "Till September 2006, getting a visa took five to six months.

Now we have brought it down to one week," he said. Kaplan said a vast majority of the applicants have got visas. , Frederick J Kaplan, Consul for Public Affairs of the consulate, said on Wednesday.
