The Vijender Singh story still fresh in mind, Indian sport was hit by another embarrassment as six junior wrestlers fled a tournament here over the weekend to avoid a dope test.

Amit (Delhi), Sandeep and Sunil Kumar (Chandigarh), and Rahul Pal (MP) left after their bouts in the 32nd Junior Boys Wrestling Championship as a National Anti-Doping Agency team looked for them to collect their samples.

Two others, Anoop and Manjeet from Haryana, did not turn up for their semifinal ties for fear of being tested.

Amit won gold and Sandeep bronze in the event that ended Sunday, but their medals have been withheld. They returned later along with Sunil and Manjeet and gave their samples.

"As they turned up, we are not disqualifying them from the championship. But since they skipped the earlier test, we have withheld their medals till the results are out," said Raj Singh, secretary general, Wrestling Federation of India.

The federation has also forwarded the case to its disciplinary committee.
