SL to release 22 TN fishermen soon

Ahmed who spoke to the Chief Minister over the phone this morning, told him that the Indian diplomats in Colombo are taking steps to get them released and send them back to Tamil Nadu, an official press release said here.

Twenty-two Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu, detained by the Sri Lankan Navy recently would be released in a day or two following the initiative taken by the Centre, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed informed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday.

Ahmed who spoke to the Chief Minister over the phone this morning, told him that the Indian diplomats in Colombo are taking steps to get them released and send them back to Tamil Nadu, an official press release said here.

The fishermen were detained on suspicion by the Lankan navy when they were allegedly fishing about one kilometre inside the Sri Lankan waters, the press release added.
