The Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement on Tuesday flayed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement in Parliament on the Sri Lankan issue, saying he has not talked anything about stopping the war in the island nation.
"Even today Mukherjee has not said anything about stopping the war in Sri Lanka. His statement on the issue earlier was similar to that of (Sri Lankan President) Rajapaksa, "said MDMK leader Vaiko and SLTPM coordinator P Nedumaran said.
The SLTPM, floated by several opposition parties in Tamil Nadu at its meeting on Tuesday also decided to stage a black flag demonstration during Mukherjee's visit to Tuticorin on Feb 28 to lay the foundation stone for a 1000 MW power project.
CPI leader T Pandian accused the Centre and Tamil Nadu government of failing to act on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
He said SLPM was not politicising the issue with an eye on the Lok Sabha elections. "We are a movement fighting for the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils," he said.
Mukherjee's statement had virtually turned down demands for India's intervention to stop the military offensive in Sri Lanka.
