Slumdog Millionaire actor Azharuddin Ismail will get a new lease of life on Tuesday when he moves with his family into his first home.
Spokesman for Jai Ho Trust Noshir Dadrawala said the trust bought a 250-sq ft flat in Vile Parle (West) for the Ismails.
“We signed the papers on Monday. We have the keys and we will hand them to the family on Tuesday,” he said.
He added that Azharuddin’s father was no longer complaining the flat was not in his name.
Previously, he had said he would not live in a flat in his son’s name. “He doesn’t seem to be worried now,” Dadrawala said.
He refused to disclose the cost of the flat but said they had managed to raise more than the Rs 10 lakh budget for each flat.
Dadrawala said they were still searching for a flat for the other Slumdog actor Rubina Ali.
The trust had shown them a house in Chembur but the family had turned it down.
“They have been very finicky about where they want to move. There is no place in Bandra where they want to live,” he said.
The state housing authority has also offered a 180-sq ft flat worth Rs 4 lakh in Malvani to Azharuddin.
“They can keep both houses if they want to. The property will be in the trust’s name until they are 18, then it will be transferred to the children,” Dadrawala said. “There is a clause in our agreement and in the Mhada one, which says the flats cannot be sold until they are 18.”
