Every furniture piece should breathe style into your home. Whether, it is a major furniture item like a sofa set or a small side table, equal attention should be paid to select each piece.
In ignorance, or due to lack of time, often storage units or cabinets are left out, which look ugly and aberrant in your otherwise coordinated room décor. Their proper and scrutinised selection always adds to the existing décor. Cabinets not only serve as multi-purpose storage space, but can double-up as base for table-top accessories too.
You can keep atop beautiful sculptures, vases, lampshades, candle-stands, or photo frames amongst others. Camelia Satija of Rio Grande, GK-1, says, “Cabinets are not a part of planned furniture, they are basically add-ons that provide colour and utility to any décor. It should be a well-thought decision which serves a purpose.”
Cabinets come in two styles — free standing or wall-mounted units that provide multi-purpose storage in distinct shapes or sizes. Available at home décor or furniture stores in abundance, the contemporary cabinets come in colourful styles, hand painted look, antique look alikes, rustic designs, printed fronts and laminate mirror finish.
Factors to finalise
*The need for storage unit lies in what you need to store in it. So, consider the space measurements (height, width and length) and the division of the inside storage space, before selecting.
*Also, check the cabinet fittings and if the doors and drawers open and shut comfortably. Verify the wood quality and if it has been processed against rodents and termite.
*To avoid scratches and stains on the cabinet top, place a mirror atop which makes cleaning easy and does not compromise the look.
