Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) has not been able to declare exam results for more than a fortnight now as snakes have homed in on the University’s secrecy branch where all answer sheets are stored.

The answer sheets are collected from all colleges affiliated to MDU and stored in the secrecy branch after being marked. Only this year, snakes seem to have decided to have a look at the answer sheets as well.

MDU exam controller BS Sindhu said, “The temperature at secrecy branch stays low and as not many people visit it, it mostly stays dark as well. These conditions are ideal for snakes.”

He also blamed monsoon for the condition. “Due to rains, snakes have started appearing all over the secrecy branch. We did not face this problem earlier,” he added.

Sources said class IV employees who were supposed to transport the sacks of answer sheets from the branch first reported the snake menace.

Sindhu said: “For the time being, we have sprinkled anti-snake medicine inside the secrecy branch to kill the snakes.” If this plan fails, MDU authorities plan to hire snake charmers to catch the reptiles.

While snakes are to be blamed this time, MDU has a history of delaying announcement of exam results. Ironically, the university received a lot of praise recently when it shifted to its spanking new campus.

And what are the students supposed to do while authorities come up with various ways to catch snakes? Twiddle their thumbs or maybe play snakes and ladders!
