For a change, officials of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) cannot be blamed for the delay in exam results. This time, the culprits are snakes, who have virtually taken over the MDU's secrecy branch, where answer sheets from various affiliated colleges are stored for checking by invigilators.
BS Sindhu, controller of examinations, MDU, said: "In the secrecy branch, the room temperature is usually low and darkness prevails. Both factors make the conditions ideal for snakes during the rainy season."
Sources said Class-4 employees who were entrusted with the task of picking up sacks of answer sheets from the branch had brought the problem to the notice of the university authorities.
Sindhu said: "For the time being, we have sprinkled snake-repellant medicine inside the branch and locked it."
If required, the MDU might rope in snake charmers to tackle the situation, the sources added. Till then, the snakes will have all the answers, or rather, all the answer sheets.
