Four days after a minor college student was allegedly raped, the police arrested the main accused, Harish, on the charges of raping and abducting the student of local Government Postgraduate Sanskrit College from Kalka in Haryana.
Earlier, the police had arrested his accomplice Pardeep, a student of the same college, on Thursday.
The case came to light after the victim's father had lodged a complaint with the Sadar police stating that his daughter was reportedly abducted by some unidentified persons on Tuesday.
The victim's father was telephonically informed by the landlord of the victim after she did not return to her room on Tuesday evening.
The complainant had also received a call from Harish intimating him that he intended to marry his daughter and the victim was with him.
Talking to mediapersons, superintendent of police Ramesh Chhajta said the accused was arrested form Hari Singh Dagra village situated near the Kalka railway station on Saturday. He said preliminary interrogations revealed that Harish was involved in some criminal cases in Reckong Peo in Kinnaur and Shimla districts.
Besides, he is also involved in some cases of cheating registered in different police stations of Shimla and Rampur Bushahr.
Chhajta said investigations revealed that Harish was a habitual offender and was in contact with many college girls of the town and its adjoining areas.
