Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday strongly condemned the attempted attack by terrorists on the RSS headquarters in Nagpur saying it was an act of cowardice aimed at disrupting peace in the country.

"Congress Party strongly condemns the attempted attack by militants on the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. This is an act of cowardice aimed at destroying peace and unity in the country", she said.

In a hard hitting statement, she said people of India will never allow the evil designs of terrorists to spread disturbances and would do everything in their power to defeat such attempts.

She also congratulated the "alert and courageous" police personnel of Maharashtra for foiling the terrorists' bid.

"The government and police of Maharashtra have acted with alacrity and care in protecting the complex," she said adding Congress party once again reiterates its determination and commitment to fight terrorism in any "shape or form."
