Spiralling prices of essential commodities and possible solutions to control it were discussed at a meeting Congress President Sonia Gandhi had on Tuesday with her party general secretaries.
The party functionaries are understood to have given her reports on the situation arising out of the price rise in various states.
The discussions come a day ahead of Gandhi's meeting with chief ministers of Congress-ruled states on the issue of price rise.
The meeting of the chief ministers is being held close on the heels of that of the party working committee few days back which had witnessed sharp attack on the Government over its handling of the issue.
Besides expressing deep concern over the issue, the meeting had witnessed members raising the issue of the plight of farmers by referring to suicides of farmers. They had also attacked the way the wheat was being imported.
The meeting of the chief ministers on price rise would be the first such exercise undertaken by the leadership to interact with its state leaders on a particular issue since the party came to power at the Centre in May 2004.
