Unmoved over the cancellation of UPA president Sonia Gandhi's visit for the Sadhbhavna Rally scheduled for August 20 in Jind on the birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, Rajya Sabha MP Birender Singh said he will try to make Sonia's visit possible till the last moment.

Birender said this while briefing the media in Jind on Sunday.

Admitting the absence of Sonia Gandhi in his rally for the first time, he said: "Behind inviting UPA president, my goal was to unite the state Congress party, however, others (chief minister BS Hooda camp) are rejoicing over the fact that Sonia Gandhi has cancelled her visit."

He said that the central leadership has, however, assured him that the rally would pave way for new leadership at the top level.

He said: "Though I will try to make Gandhi's visit possible till the last moment, but according to the schedule, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, central minister Ambika Soni, Haryana party affairs in-charge Shakeel Ahmed and co-incharge Asha Kumari will attend the rally."

Launching a fresh attack on chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, he said: "It seems the chief minister is incapable to take a decision in party's favour, as even after inviting him to inaugurate the food ordinance scheme from his rally, he chose to deny the offer."

Responding to a media query on the setback to his rally after Sonia Gandhi cancelled her visit, he said: "The Tuesday rally will still remain historic and will break all previous records. It has not hampered in reducing the enthusiasm of party workers in any manner."
