Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday took the Rae Bareli district administration in Uttar Pradesh to task asking officers to conduct an inquiry into the misuse of funds including the Central Road Fund (CRF) and other centrally-sponsored schemes.
She has also asked them to submit an Action Taken Report within 15 days.
Sonia was presiding over the district- level vigilance and monitoring committee meeting.
The Congress president had a number of complaints pertaining to misuse of funds, corruption, poor quality of work on roads being constructed with funds from the CRF, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
“If the quality is poor those responsible for it should be taken to task,” she said.
There were complaints about NREGA projects, the midday meal scheme and desilting of canals too. She said that no work had been carried out under NREGA in 46 villages and development work was incomplete in 299 villages.
Before winding up her two- day visit Sonia met district magistrate Charanjeet Singh Buxi and asked him to take necessary action with regard to the issues raised at the meeting.
