Congress President Sonia Gandhi will launch the party’s election campaign in Andhra Pradesh with public meetings at Kothagudem in Khammam district on Friday and at Hyderabad the next day.
The dates for the meetings of the UPA Chairperson were announced in a revised tour programme issued in Hyderabad on Tuesday night by Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
The meetings will be attended by APCC President D Srinivas, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and in-charge of Andhra affairs M Veerappa Moily, it said.
The party cadre is busy mobilising people for the meetings in which large gatherings are expected, Srinivas told reporters in Hyderabad.
APCC’s Election Committee will meet here on February 28 to scrutinise the applications from prospective candidates, he said, adding that Reddy among others would attend the meet.
“We have received 8,000 applications, but only 6,000 will be taken up for consideration,” Srinivas said.
Decrying the “propaganda” by the Opposition ‘Grand Alliance´ against Chief Minister Reddy and his son, the APCC President said people will respond to the allegations suitably in the upcoming polls.
Assembly elections are due in Andhra Pradesh along with Lok Sabha polls.
