CONGRESS PRESIDENT Sonia Gandhi will kick start party’s election campaign from Kanpur city by addressing a rally at the historic Phoolbagh ground on August 8.
This was announced by newly appointed district president of the party Mahesh Dixit, at his first press conference after assuming the post. He said the party’s election campaign in the state would be formally launched from Kanpur city and the district Congress is making elaborate arrangements for the success of the rally.
Dixit said senior leaders of the party including Motilal Vohra, Ashok Gehlot, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, Jairam Ramesh and Satydeo Tripathi would hold a meeting regarding the preparation for the rally on July 18 at the party office.
“ Senior leaders of the party will provide necessary guidance of the district Congress for the success of the rally,” added Dixit. Senior leaders of the party would also inspect the Phoolbagh ground, the venue of the rally, for final approval, Dixit said.
Another meeting of senior party leaders of the city and all ward presidents has been convened on July 16. In this meeting final plan for the rally will be prepared, he said.
An important meeting of all AICC and PCC members had already taken place on July 13 in this connection.
