JMM president Shibu Soren would head the Jharkhand State Coordination Committee (JSCC), official sources said on Sunday.

His name was proposed by Chief Minister Arjun Munda after the cabinet approved the setting up the JSCC during the day, the sources said.

The idea of setting up the committee was first mooted during the Babulal Marandi-led NDA government in 2001-02 with the chief minister being the chairman and the ertstwhile Samata Party leader Goutam Sagar Rana being the convenor.

While nothing was said by the sources about the functioning of the JSCC, Rana, now in the RJD, said it was envisaged that the basic functioning of the committee would be to draft a common minimum programme and forming consensus on any matter or issue.
