Nothing is going well for former India captain Sourav Ganguly. He has lost one of his last chances to get back to the Indian team, and now his signature restaurant here has been robbed of Rs 80,000.
Cash worth Rs.81,158 was missing from Sourav's Food Pavilion in Park Street on Tuesday morning after a possible burglary on Monday night.
A police complaint was lodged after the cashier alleged that the sales proceeds of Dashami, the last day of Durga Puja, kept in the cashbox late in the night was found missing the next day.
The cashier left the key to the cashbox with one of the security guards, but it was missing when he came back Tuesday, according to the police complaint.
Police have ruled out the involvement of any outsider in the theft.
"Either the cashier or the guard is responsible for the theft. One of them is lying to us because the lock of the cashbox was intact," said a police official.
A few months ago, a lucky golden chain with a locket of family deity Ma Chandi was stolen from Sourav's bedroom by a man who used to change the linen. It was later recovered by the police.
Sourav's comeback bid in the Indian team failed as he performed dismally in the Challenger Trophy. He was dropped from the Irani Trophy squad on Wednesday, rendering chances of his making it to Team India look tougher than ever before.
