Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Saifudddin Soz on Friday threw its support behind the party general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s decision to assume bigger role and suggested vice- president or secretary general incharge post for him

“There is a heartening situation within the party. It is widely perceived in the Indian National Congress that Rahul Gandhi should assume a bigger role and, that too, as soon as possible,” said Soz in a statement issued in Srinagar.

During presidential polls, junior Gandhi Gandhi said in New Delhi that he will play a more proactive role in the party and the government. “The decision has been taken, the timing is up to my two bosses -- the Congress president and the prime minister,” he said.

Welcoming the decision, Soz said, “After a long experience of meeting thousands of people all these years and exchanging ideas with them, Rahul Gandhi should come forward to help the party in a big way to further ensure the party’s rejuvenation and all round progress . It will mean a qualitative change at the grassroots level.”

He said Gandhi should either be vice president of the party or secretary general In-charge of the party. “Those who know Rahul Gandhi somewhat closely will certainly agree that Rahul’s method of political governance is direct, transparent and thoroughly political,” said Soz.

Calling the junior Gandhi’s decision a significant move, Soz said, “The Congress party’s overall interests would be promoted and safeguarded by Rahul Gandhi. He will get direct feedback on the Congress party affairs, from length and breadth of India, to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. It will facilitate her timely decision on party affairs.”

Seeking the Congress president’s to Rahul’s assertion, Soz said, “She should respond to the situation of hope and assign a role to Rahul Gandhi.”
