SP asks the EC to bar MNS from contesting elections in the backdrop of its controversial remarks against N Indians.

Samajwadi Party on Monday asked the Election Commission to bar Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray from contesting elections in the backdrop of its controversial remarks against north Indians.

Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh petitioned the EC that the MNS be de-recognised and disqualified from contesting polls in future as its leader "does not believe in Indian constitution".

Singh filed the petition through his lawyer Pradeep Rai.

Thackeray kicked up a row last week when he attacked north Indians and particularly Amitabh Bachchan. The remarks led to a confrontation between MNS and SP workers in Mumbai and some other areas.
