Faced with criticism over seeking support of Kalyan Singh, Samajwadi Party on Thursday found support of "Parcham Party", a political party with pro Muslim leaders, which lauded the former BJP leader for strengthening secularism.
The leaders of Parcham Party who met the SP chief at his residence in Etawah to extend support in the November 7 by-elections to one Lok Sabha and 11 assembly seats said that it is better that Kalyan Singh is utilising his energy in strengthening SP rather than "communal BJP."
Parcham Party's national president Salim Pirzada told reporters that only SP had worked for uplifting Muslims, since independence and the community could further benefit only when the SP is strengthened.
"A weakened BJP is both in the interest of the country and Muslims", they said.
On Kalyan Singh, Pirzada said that it is better that he had mended ways by parting company with the communal BJP and was now working for SP.
On senior SP leader Azam Khan opening a front over Kalyan Singh issue, they said that he (Khan) wanted to settle his personal scores in the name of fighting for the cause of the community and this was wrong.
