Yashvir Singh Yadav

A 33-year-old advocate, also a local Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, was shot dead by five men inside his house at Shahpur Bamheta village in Ghaziabad on Monday morning.

The assailants, identified as next-door neighbours, fled with a .315 rifle and a .32 caliber gun from the victim’s residence.

According to the police, the assailants barged into the house of Yashvir Singh Yadav around 10.30am and started firing at his family members. Yadav was inside his first-floor bedroom. The attackers assaulted his private security guard Sri Nivas and hit him with their weapons.

“After injuring the security guard, they snatched his rifle and shot at me and Yashvir’s wife. We somehow escaped. Then they went to the first-floor and started firing at my brother who sustained several bullet injuries,” Yashvir’s brother Salek Yadav said.

The firing continued for around 10-15 minutes after which the assailants escaped with two licensed guns belonging to the victim. Yashvir was rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital on NH-24, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Although the police were not clear about the motive behind the incident, officials said that Mitthan Yadav created regular mischief in the area which was opposed by the victim and his family members.

“Around 4-5 days back, the prime accused had a scuffle with the victim’s brother but the matter was pacified by the locals. The accused was under the impression that the victim frequently complained to the police against him,” said superintendent of police Shiv Shanker Yadav.

Salek alleged that the prime accused was involved in the supply of liquor in neighborhood localities and resorted to hooliganism in the area which was resisted by his brother.

The victim’s family has lodged an FIR against five persons, Mitthan Yadav, Manoj Yadav, Lala Yadav (all brothers), Kapil Yadav — a local and Mitthan’s maternal uncle Budhpal Yadav.

“We have registered a case of murder and robbery against the five accused,” SP Yadav said.

The incident also witnessed protests by some locals.
