FORMER CORPORATORS of Samajwadi Party have claimed that if the party candidate won the mayoral seat then the decision on ‘Saralkar’ would be rolled back.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, former leader of SP corporator cell Parmeshwar Dayal Kanoujia, Mohammed Ishaq and Mursalin Khan alias Bholu said the BJP Government had introduced ‘Saralkar’ and Congress mayor Anil Sharma got it implemented in Kanpur. “We will try to get Vidhan Sabha annul the decision,” they said.

They said the SP had staged several agitations to oppose ‘Saralkar’ and the Congress benefited from it by winning the mayoral poll and Lok Sabha seat from the city.

“If the SP candidate Neeraj Chaturvedi wins the mayoral seat ‘Saralkar’ will be rolled back,” former corporator Kanoujia said.

Earlier, the KMC used to charge House Tax at 12.5 per cent on the total accessed rental income of the house. Water tax was accessed at 14 per cent and Sewer Tax was accessed at 4.5 per cent. But now the ‘Saralkar’ was being charged according to the circle rate.

“The rate is being fixed as per square feet and the municipal commissioner is fixing it,” Mohammed Ishaq said.  ‘Saralkar’ has absolved corporators of all their power and it had resulted in gross anomalies and inconvenience to people, Mohammed Ishaq added. Now, corporators had no say on House Tax and bureaucrats controls the entire affair, Mursalin Khan alias Bholu stated.
