Alleging harassment of party workers, Samajwadi Party MP from Kaiserganj Brij Bhushan Saran Singh on Saturday went on a hunger strike before the divisional commissioner's office in Gonda.

Singh alleged that some leaders of ruling BSP were using the local police to harass SP workers and get them framed in fake cases.

"Goonda and Gangsters Act have also been slapped against them", he told reporters in the district, which is 100 kms from state capital Lucknow.

Similarly, the village heads who had sided with the Samajwadi Party in the recent Lok Sabha elections were also being targeted by the administration, the MP alleged.

Singh said he has also raised the matter of power shortage, construction of roads and bridges as well as an engineering college as part of 22 point charter of demand for the development of the area and sent a memorandum in this connection to Governor T V Rajeswar.

Some party workers including former ministers and MLAs were also sitting on a hunger strike along with Singh.
