SP stir against shortage of LPG

india Updated: Dec 15, 2006 10:41 IST

ANGRY OVER black marketing of cooking gas cylinders and subsequent shortage of cylinders in the city, Samajwadi Party activists took out a procession and staged a dharna at the district magistrate’s office on Thuesday. They also handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate to be forwarded to the President of India in this regard. They alleged that the cooking gas supply system had collapsed in the city.

The SP activists used this opportunity to hit hard at the Congress-led UPA government and said whenever Congress came into power, black marketing of gas cylinders, seeds and fertilizers flourished. Expressing his views on this occasion, former MLC Narendra Pratap Singh said Congress was defaming the Mulayam government over law and order issue but it had forgotten that law and order in Maharashtra and Delhi was worse.

Severely criticising the Congress and the BJP for raising unnecessary issues, SP district president Chandra Bali Yadav said BJP was raising the Afzal issue while ignoring the escalation in prices.

He accused Congress of giving step-motherly treatment to Uttar Pradesh.
Party leader Sharvan Yadav, Kirtinidhi Pandey, Venkatesh Tiwari and Sanjay Singh decided to stage a dharna to demand streamlining the supply of gas cylinders.

City unit president of party Zia-ul-Islam said that the present crisis had emerged due to faulty distribution policy. The Union government had not increased the allotted quota of gas cylinders for the last 30 years.
