THE TWO-DAY training session for district sports officers (DSOs) and coaches began at Tatya Tope Stadium on Tuesday.  Sports and Youth Welfare Department in association with Special Olympics is organising the session to train coaches to impart proper guidance in sports to mentally challenged children.

Sports Department recently announced a policy to motivate  mentally challenged children in sports activities. According to the policy, it was decided that regular activities and events would be organised in future.

However, coaches and DSOs that play an important role in any event supported by the Department have no special training to teach the mentally challenged. “This session will help them in organising events for mentally challenged in a better way,” said director sports Sanjay Chaudhary.

More than 250 coaches and DSOs of Department from across the State are participating in the training session. Experts of Special Olympics including national technical director Ahteshamuddin and others are participating in the session.

The programme is been divided in two sessions - theory and practical. In all, 40 sports teachers of Special Olympics will also participate in the programme.
