Special Lok Adalats will be organised during summer vacations to fast-track traffic cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and dishonour of cheque cases under Sec 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, under directions of the Haryana Legal Services Authority (HLSA).
The Lok Adalat will sit for hearings from June 16 to June 30 with a break on Sundays (June 17 and June 24).
The secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA)-cum-chief judicial magistrate, Narinder Kaur, said, “The decision to organise Lok Adalats has been taken in view of a large number of cases pending in various courts. About 200 cases will be taken up in each special Lok Adalat.”
Kaur emphasised that Lok Adalats have proved successful in settling cases that can be solved through mutual consent.
She also mentioned that two benches have been constituted for organising these special Lok Adalats. One bench, comprising Jasbir Singh, civil judge(Senior Division)-cum- additional chief judicial magistrate and advocate Sunil Sharma, legal aid counsel, is expected to deal with cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The second bench is made up of Ashok Mann, civil judge (Junior Division)-cum-judicial magistrate First Class and advocate Vedpal Yadav, legal aid counsel, with cases under the Motor Vehicle Act falling under its purview.
Kaur added, “The bench chaired by Jasbir Singh will also hold a special Lok Adalat for undertrials involved in petty offences or compoundable cases in district jail Bhondsi on June 20, to provide relief to those who are implicated in petty offences.”
