A 20-year-old girl was attacked on Monday with a sickle, by a youth in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh after she allegedly rejected his marriage proposal, police said.
The incident took place this morning at Ongole when the accused Kumar Babu attacked N Nagmani, a B.Ed student, finding her alone at her residence, resulting in injuries on the right hand and her neck, they said.
“Babu questioned her why she was refusing to marry him and attacked her. He fled from the spot after the girl raised an alarm,” a senior police officer told PTI.
The accused had been previously arrested in January this year and sent to remand for “harrassing” Nagamani, police said.
“Earlier, the girl filed a complaint against Kumar Babu in January for harassing her over the issue, after which he was arrested and sent to remand,” the police officer said.
The condition of the girl, who was admitted to a hospital, is out of danger, he said.
According to the police, the youth and girl knew each other since last six years and she had been refusing his marriage offer.
A case has been registered against Babu, who is out on bail, by the Ongole police under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and a hunt has been launched to nab him, police added.
