Cricket fans in India form a mixed lot. Some are dumbstruck by the sight of the players, some of them can't control screaming and there are some who don't mind throwing the odd funny remark.
It was no different at the team hotel here on Saturday when the India stars checked in. There was no entry for the public into the hotel premises, but some of them were around, on their way to another wing of the hotel hosting an exhibition of fashion accessories.
Amid chants of 'Sachin, Sachin', there were also the less reverential ones reserved for Yuvraj Singh, who was greeted with the question 'where is the party tonight?'. He didn't react, neither did Piyush Chawla when someone shouted 'ye kaun hai re?' (who is this?) when he came closer to the crowd.
Guess who was different? Not many marks for getting it right, it was S Sreesanth. As soon as he was in sight, people started teasing him, 'what about break dance?', knowing his ability to shake a leg, and his brittle temperament. Sreesanth could have kept quiet like all others. But he turned and responded: "Come join us, we will do it together". It didn't cause anything more than laughter, but demonstrated for the umpteenth time Sreesanth's tendency to react, even for something that can be easily ignored. If a senior member of the team management is to be believed, Sreesanth is getting regular lectures on how to conduct himself and concentrate on his game.
