Kerala on Thursday handed over the keys of its first metro project to E. Sreedharan. The Palakkad native, who helmed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for 14 years, vowed to complete the Rs 5,000-crore project in three years.
"When I said it would be completed in three-and-a-half years, the CM said he wanted it in three years, and I readily agreed. But I want everyone to avoid unnecessary controversies," he said.
After Jaipur roped him in for its metro project, Kerala had been in a tizzy to get Sreedharan on board, but recurring controversies kept him away.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy finally prevailed upon him and promised a free hand.
