Srinagar youth found dead on highway, family demands probe

The mysterious death of a youth from Srinagar on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Wednesday sparked protests in the old part of the city on Thursday evening.


Tasleem Sadiq, a resident of Malapora area in Habba Kadal, Srinagar, was found dead near on the Jammu-Srinagar highway near Nashri in Chanderkote area.

"The body was recovered several feet down in a gorge near Nashri in Chanderkote," said Ramban station house officer Mukhtar Singh.

The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CRPC to ascertain the cause of death.
"The body was spotted by some locals. They immediately informed the police station concerned about the matter," said the police officer.

"We rushed to the spot and recovered the body," he added.

After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for last rites. Inquest proceedings are on in the case.

Residents of the victim's locality organised protests. The family and relatives of the deceased have demanded a probe into the death.
