Cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees have been stolen from a well-known jewellery showroom at Ambedkar Road in Ghaziabad.

Narendra Gupta, owner of Tanishq showroom, has lodged an FIR against four of his employees. The employees hail from Nepal and had been working for 5 to 10 years.

The incident came to light when the showroom was opened on Monday and the staff found diamonds and jewellery missing from the boxes, said Vikram Aggarwal, a relative of showroom owner Gupta.

Though the owners were still evaluating the loss, unconfirmed sources estimated the figure to be around Rs 80 lakh. However, the actual figure will be ascertained after a complete evaluation of the loss.

"We have lodged a police complaint against Suresh Bahadur, Naval Bahadur, Basant Bahadur and one of their relatives. Company officials are evaluating the loss which may turn out to be heavy," said Aggarwal.

Aggarwal said on Monday, the other staff came as usual on duty but the three suspects did not turn up. The fourth man, said to be a relative of one of the missing employees, also went on leave citing personal reasons and is absconding, the police said.

The showroom had around 8-10 staff and was fully equipped with CCTV cameras. "We are also scanning images from the CCTV cameras to know the exact details," Aggarwal said.

The police said the loss could be heavy as a number of articles were missing. "As per initial investigations, we could estimate the amount of cash lost, which is in the range of Rs 7-8 lakh. The evaluation of jewellery is on ," SP (Crime) Ram Kishore said.
