THE STAGE is set for the first Jan Morcha rally, led by former Prime Minister VP Singh, here on Tuesday.

Besides, mobilising support from all over the state for his party, Singh has invited anti-Mulayam Singh Yadav forces from Delhi to launch a frontal attack on the state government. Union Ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan will also participate in the rally.

While VP Singh had been moving in the State during the last one year to mobilise farmers’ support, the rally under the banner of the Jan Morcha headed by suspended Samajwadi Party MP Raj Babbar is first such attempt to open front against the Chief Minister. The Morcha has been able to woo several smaller political parties –the Indian Justice Party led by Udit Raj, National Loktantrik Party of Dr Masood, Om Prakash Rajbhar of Bharatiya Samaj Party, Akhilendra Pratap Singh (CPI-ML), Mahendra Singh Tikait’s Bharatiya Kisan Union and others. Since the Congress and the BJP are in disarray, the  Jan Morcha has been making determined efforts to take up issues haunting the people in the State.

The CPM has refused to join VP’s bandwagon against Mulayam Singh, but CPI general secretary AB Bardhan agreed to attend the rally. The CPI has been carrying on campaign against the government for the last one year. Raj Babbar has already announced to ‘expose’ the government at the rally.

The Morcha has become a rallying point for opposition parties, said Udit Raj, who has entered into an alliance with the outfit. Assailing the State Government for the deteriorating law and order situation, Udit Raj told newsmen here that VP Singh was in JP’s (Jaiprakash Narain) role in UP.
