The stage is set for Pratibha Patil to be sworn is as President at Parliament’s Central Hall on Wednesday. She will become the first woman in the country to hold the highest constitutional post.

On the eve of her oath taking ceremony, she spent the day accepting greetings from people from different walks of life.

Speaking at a function late on Monday evening to release a set of commemorative coins featuring Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, “Tilak would have been a happy person on Patil’s election as the country’s first woman president as they both belong to Maharashtra.”

Singh said it was a “matter of pride that on a day we commemorate the memory of Lokmanya Tilak, we can also say with pride that our country’s First lady President happens to be a Maharashtrian.”
