In a move to placate peeved residents, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has called a meeting of stakeholders and RWA officials on Friday to discuss the demand for removal of toll gates on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. Residents have been protesting against toll plazas on the expressway. They had launched a ‘Toll Hatao’ movement and have been organizing protests.

The expressway has two toll gates – one at Sirhaul and the other at Kherki Daula.

The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of member (technical) VL Patankar on the NHAI premises at 11am on January 27.

In the past one month, city residents have come together to raise their voice demanding the removal of tolls at Sirhaul and Kherki Daula.

The National Highway Authority of India took note of media reports regarding protests by residents wherein people gathered at the two toll sites, shouted slogans and urged commuters not to pay the toll money.

The residents also gave an ultimatum to the NHAI, stating they would hold a demonstration at Sirhaul on January 29.

“We are ready to face any consequences on January 29 but we won’t allow commuters to pay the tolls at Sirhaul. We have already apprised the competent authority,” said RS Rathee, an active member-cum-president, Gurgaon Citizens Council.
