The state unit of the BJP celebrated the 89th birthday of former prime minister and senior party leader AB Vajpayee on December 25. A 'havan' (hindu ritual) was performed for his good health and long life.
State unit president Jugal Kishore Sharma said, "Vajpayee, by his conduct, had set an example by rising to the highest position in the country by dint of hard work, dedication and sincerity."
"He was the most respectable prime minister who earned the distinction of being a mass leader commanding respect from all, even from opposition leaders," added Sharma.
MLA Ashok Khajuria said that Vajpayee worked sincerely and tried to build bridges of friendship and understanding with all the neighboring countries, including Pakistan.
Vajpayee enjoys unparallel respect in Kashmir, which he visited when he was the prime minister. He started talks with separatists, who even now say that any talks with the Centre should be modeled on the lines of Vajpayee's thinking.
