Karnataka State CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has joined the social networking websites, Face Book and Twitter recently, a top official of the CID said.

Guruprasad, who was influenced by an interaction police had with captains of IT/ITES industries here last month, feels that joining social media is a step towards bringing about transparent administration and also as a measure of involving community in policing.

He plans to update the public of the happenings in CID including status of important cases being investigated by it.

He proposes to invite tips from the community to help the CID fight crime, including cybercrime, multi level marketing frauds, narcotics, counterfeit currency, Illegal storage/ use of Arms and Explosives, Human Trafficking, Wildlife Offences etc. This can be done by joining the ‘helpcidkarnataka’ group that has been created in the Facebook page.
