Asking state governments to extend full cooperation to the Centre to effectively check the price rise, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy on Friday said they should spare no effort in dealing with hoarders trying to take advantage of the drought in many parts of the country.
State governments should take stern action against hoarders and unearth their stocks, he told reporters in Puducherry. He said the Prime Minister, as well as the finance and agriculture ministers have announced measures to combat the drought situation.
"State governments should extend full cooperation to the Centre in controlling price rise," he said. The Minister said the government had sufficient stocks of wheat and rice.
"While there was ready stock of 325 million ton wheat, the Centre also has 360 million ton of rice at its disposal. Rice or wheat needed by states for distribution through PDS would be available from the central allocation," he added.
Referring to swine flu, he said a central medical team would visit Puducherry next week and assist the government in ensuring there was no spread of the virus.
