THE NINTH State-level Astronomy Olympiad of the Madhya Pradesh Vigyan Sabha began on Sunday with the State-level Astronomy Examination.
About 120 students guided by 40 teachers from 28 districts are taking part in the Olympiad. The participants are winners in junior and senior categories of the District-level Astronomy Test conducted in November.
The objective of the Olympiad is to inculcate interest in Astronomy among the students and also to make them understand the science used in routine life thereby doing away with superstitions.
Following the examination, various group activities were organised for the participants among which were activities based on sound and mathematics (Origami).
The participants were also given information on how to witness an eclipse and other astronomical events. The participants watched the demonstration of planetarium and a 3-D movie.
