Key fugitives associated with a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) supported and al Qaeda influenced terror module are emerging as prime suspects in Wednesday’s bombing outside the Karnataka BJP headquarter.

What brought them under scanner was the fact that some members of the module, busted in August last year, had allegedly planned killing of state BJP president Prahlad Joshi and a host of key figures associated with far-right outfits in Karnataka and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Besides Prahlad Joshi, the module had allegedly conspired to kill BJP MLC Vijaya Sankeshwar, Bajrang Dal leader Ganu Jartarkar, senior police officials — B Dayananda, DM Krishnamraju and Nyame Gowda and two prominent journalists Pratap Simha and Vishveswara Bhat in Karnataka. In Hyderabad the module wanted to kill Saidabad corporator Singi Reddy Srinivas Reddy and Andhra Hindu Vahini president Rajavardhan Reddy.

Around a dozen members of the module were arrested but key operatives are yet to be caught. Some of them are believed to be Saudi Arabia. The module was in touch with Karachi based LeT operatives Farhatullah Ghori and Riyan.

A probe by the National Investigation Agency had alleged that at least two members of the module-Zafar Iqbal Sholapur and Abdul Hakeem Jamadar had visited Pakistan via Iran as they wanted to join Taliban forces in Afghanistan to fight with the US troops. But the LeT and officials of Pakistani spy agency ISI who met them Karachi asked them to go back to India and collect intelligence for them.

Hyderabad based module members of the group are prime suspects in twin blasts in city’s Dilsukhnagar area on February 21.
