State powerlifting from tomorrow

india Updated: Jul 21, 2006 14:05 IST

THE BODY Temple Iron Game Association (BTIGA) and Bhopal District Powerlifting Association under the auspices of MP Powerlifting Association will organise the two-day State-level powerlifting championship at Patrakar Bhavan from July 22.

Talking to journalists here today, organising committee president Mukesh Rai said that the competition will be organised for all categories including senior, junior, sub-junior and master for both men and women.

“We have received confirmation from 220 powerlifters from across the State including 25 women. The objective is to popularise the iron game in the City”, said Rai.

The State-level competition will be organised after a long gap of 10 years. “By organising the competition on a large scale, the intention is to revive the game in the Capital. We are hoping for good response”, Rai opined.

Revenue Minister Kamal Patel, Mayor Sunil Sood, MP Builders Association president Dilip Suryavanshi and Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association (BDCA) vice-president Aruneshwar Singhdeo will be the guests of the opening ceremony to be organised on July 22 at 11:30 am.

Urban Administration Minister Jayant Malaiya and BMC chairman Ram Dayal Prajapati will distribute prizes to the winners. The organisers said attractive prizes would be presented to the winners.

Venue to get facelift
PATRAKAR BHAVAN, the venue of the powerlifting competition, is in a dilapidated condition and might get renovation through the competition if one goes by the words of BMC deputy leader of opposition and organising committee president Mukesh Rai. “It is true that the condition of Patrakar Bhavan is bad.

After inspecting the venue and talking to the BMC members, it is decided to start a renovation work of roof and other parts from July 21”, said Rai. He is hoping for good competition.
