State stops gas supply to old taxis

An affidavit field by Chandrakant Sontakke, regional transport officer, states the government has sent a list of taxis which are more than 25 years old to the Mahanagar Gas Limited. It requested them to stop the CNG supply to these taxis and inform the RTO so that it would take action, states the affidavit.

The government has requested the joint commissioner of police (traffic) to inform traffic officials so that they would take stern action against those plying 25-year-old taxis. A press note was published in newspapers asking the taxi drivers to replace their vehicles, failing which their taxis would be seized.

The affidavit states that the government has seized 47 taxis which are 25 years old. Of the 1,364 taxis checked for age limit, 47 were found to be more than 25 years old and they were seized.
