State wins 4 gold; tally 57

AFTER A lacklustre dull performance on Thursday in the National Games under way at Guwahati, Madhya Pradesh bounced back on Friday winning nine medals, including four gold medals. This was for the first in the history of Madhya Pradesh that it won four gold medals on single day in any National Games.

AFTER A lacklustre dull performance on Thursday in the National Games under way at Guwahati, Madhya Pradesh bounced back on Friday winning nine medals, including four gold medals. This was for the first in the history of Madhya Pradesh that it won four gold medals on single day in any National Games.

MP won six medals in karate on Friday, four of them gold medals. At the end of the day, MP had won 57 medals including eight gold, which is the highest number of gold medals for the State in any National Games.

The State touched the magic figure of 50 medals, the highest-ever by the State. Vikas Sharma won the first gold for the State in the kata category of karate. Ram Narayan Solanki won the second gold in the kumite section of the under-50-kg category.

After a fabulous performance by men, MP women also joined the party. Jagriti won the third gold for the State in karate. She won gold in the women kata section. Sandhya won the fourth gold.

Though Javed Akhtar could not won gold for the State in karate, his performance was attractive. He had to be content with the bronze. Shalini won the silver in karate. In kayaking, the State had to be content with the bronze.  Darshana made the State proud by winning bronze in the 60-63-kg category of the boxing event. The State won the ninth medal of the day in shooting.

According to the Director Sports Sanjay Chaudhary, the State will comfortably win ten golds in Karate. “As was expected, the State karate players have put up a splendid performance,” gushed Chaudhary.
