Statewide alert in UP before festivals

The State Government on Friday issued a statewide alert asking the district magistrates, district police chiefs and other senior officers to step up vigil to maintain law and order in view of coming festivals of Christmas, Id-uz-Zuha (Bakrid) and the new year.
The Secretary Home RM Srivastava said the available inputs have indicated that the terrorists plan to attack during the religious festivals in the country to cause communal divide. This period is considered extremely vulnerable from the terrorism point of view, he said.
The Home Secretary has referred to terrorists' attacks on the disputed complex in Ayodhya, explosion in Shramjeevi Express near Jaunpur etc.
In his directives the Home Secretary has asked divisional commissioners, zonal IG's range DIG's, district magistrates and the district police chiefs. Srivastava in his directives has asked the officials to make special security arrangements at crowded places. He has officials to take utmost care in the areas where disputes have been noticed in the past few years.
