IN A major breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) sleuths gunned down two dreaded gangsters in an encounter near Picnic Spot in Ghazipur on Wednesday. A police S-I also suffered bullet injury in the exchange of fire.

The outlaws were wanted in a sensational murder case by the Gwalior police for the past two months and a reward of Rs 15,000 each was also announced on them. The STF recovered a .9mm and .32 bore pistols and a Maruti Esteem car from the possession of the criminals.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) STF SK Bhagat received information about the movement of two gangsters in the city. He assigned the job to ASP Umesh Kumar Singh to trace the criminals.

After collecting details about the miscreants from the informers, Singh put their phone numbers on surveillance. While keeping track of their movement, the STF team came to know about their location in Ghazipur area.

The STF team led by SI Vinay Gautam laid a trap and spotted a car (UP75 E-4089) coming from Munshi Pulia Road towards Khurram Nagar crossing.

As the informer confirmed the cops that the gangsters were travelling in the car, the STF team waved the car to stop. But, the youth driving the car turned the vehicle suddenly towards Picnic Spot road.

The police team chased the car.

As the criminals reached the Chandan Road, the driver lost control over the vehicle and the car rammed into a tree. However, the gangsters, instead of surrendering, started opening fire at the cops. The STF sleuths too retaliated and killed the duo on the spot. Dharmesh Kumar Shahi, an S-I, also received bullet injury on his leg.

The criminals were later identified as Sonu Singh alias Dharmendra Singh Tomar and Monu alias Manoj Chauhan, both of Gwalior.

SSP, STF revealed that the gangsters had eliminated an influential person—-Sughar Singh two months back in Gwalior.

The duo had attacked Singh’s car with sophisticated weapons. While Singh was killed, his gunner and other occupants were critically injured.

Besides, the duo had also executed several other heinous crimes there.
