IN YET another breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) sleuths arrested four members of fugitive don Chhota Shakeel gang in Qaiserbagh on Sunday.
One of the arrested accused—- Mahtab Alam alias Munna Pradhan was also in constant touch with area commander of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT).
Electronic Surveillance revealed that Chhota Shakeel had assigned Munna a job to eliminate jailed don Babloo Srivastava on way to Delhi from Lucknow in police custody. Munna was talking regularly to Shakeel on mobile phone for past three days. Shakeel was making calls through conferencing routed via Pakistan-Dubai and Nepal.
Additional SP (ASP) STF Rajesh Pandey and his team laid a trap after they came to know through surveillance of mobile phone about members of Chhota Shakeel gang were arriving to Lucknow. Further information indicated the gangsters had gathered near Maqbara at Qaiserbagh.
The STF team rushed to the place and arrested Mehtab Alab alias Munna, Liyaqat Ullah alias Mirza, both of Katra Shanker Nagar locality, Balrampur district, Farzand Ali alias Baba of Krishnanagar district, Nepal and Aleem Khan alias Karan Singh Thakur of Shab-e-qadra ka hata Maulviganj locality in Aminabad, Lucknow.
The cops recovered a .32 revolver, four cellphones, a diary and some other documents containing addresses of several members of Dwaood Ibrahim gang and LeT members.
ASP Pandey said Munna, whose wife Shabina is presently a pradhan of local gram panchayat in Balrampur, had visited Pakistan four times. He had married a girl Reshma in Hyderabad there in 2001 but had divorced her after one year. Munna had met Chhota Shakeel several times in Karachi.
Munna and Farzand Ali were regular visitors to Mumbai where they used to visit Shakeel’s associates. The duo had returned from Mumbai merely four days back.
Besides, ASP Pandey said, Aleem Khan had been a close aide of jailed don Babloo Srivastava and had also been involved in several sensational kidnappings in Mumbai and Delhi since 1991 orchestrated by Babloo. Aleem was released from Tihar jail a few weeks back only after being lodged there for five-and-half years.
The police had arrested Aleem in Lucknow in 2001 along with seven others for hatching plan to kidnap a leading Lucknow-based paan masala company owner.
However, ASP STF said, Munna had met Aleem a few months back in Tihar jail. Munna had lured Aleem for a hefty sum for betraying with his boss—-Babloo. Munna was asked by Shakeel to hire services of Aleem for making a successful attempt to eliminate Babloo Srivastava. Aleem had given his consent for the same.
On the other hand, Farzand Ali, who is a native of Balrampur district, was staying in Nepal as he had rivalry with local MP Rizwan Zaheer. He too was in regular touch with Shakeel. Liyaqat is cousin of Munna and stays with him always.
