Badminton player and Olympic bronze medal winner Saina Nehwal, 22, says that winning a medal for the country has given her great satisfaction and that she is not interested in any image makeovers.

“I am still the same Saina. It is great satisfaction to win a medal. I went for the gold but lost in semis, I will never forget the defeat which happened under pressure,” she says.

Talking about her interview where she had said that Bollywood actor and badminton player Deepika Padukone doesn’t even remember her, she says, “No, there is nothing like that. She is the best and a sport lover. She loves us a lot.” She had refused certain big-budget endorsement offers as she wanted to concentrate on Olympics. “I did not reject them but asked them to delay everything till the end of Olympics. I am interested in endorsements, but due to paucity of time I delayed them for some time.”

So, any plans of marriage? “No not yet. It will happen when I become mature”, she says. Giving full credit of her success to her coach Pullela Gopichand and her parents, she says, “Gopi sir and my parents are behind my success. Papa is highly relieved of pressure because he takes care of everything in my life.” With an Olympic medal in her kitty, Nehwal looks forward only to victory. “I am looking forward to win all the tournaments that I play now,” she says. “Badminton will gain momentum in a big manner after my win in Olympics. More players will participate in the game now,” she says.

Will we ever get to see her on the big screen? “No! I am only a badminton player,” she signs off.
