Stop harassment, no privatisation

india Updated: Nov 16, 2006 00:06 IST

MEMBERS OF North Eastern Railway Mazdoor Union and Railway Station Sanitation Employees’ took out a procession and staged a dharna at the station superintendent’s office in support of their demands. They shouted slogans against the apathetic attitude of the administration in resolving their demands and handed over a memorandum to the station superintendent.

Delivering his views on this occasion, working president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation KL Gupta said that while the area of the railway station had expanded but the strength of sanitation employees at the railway station did not increase in the same ratio, which has resulted in mounting the work pressure on the present employees thus creating problems in the sanitation maintenance of the various platforms.

He condemned the senior railway officials’ attitude for harassing the sanitation employees and punishing them. He expressed his apprehension that behind all this harassment is the well planned scheme of the senior railway officials to hand over the sanitation work of railway platform to the private sectors and reiterated that the railway unions would strongly oppose this measure.
