If you are stranded in a flooded area and need help this monsoon, you’re just a phone call away. You will have to dial the area’s MTNL telephone code followed by 4000 and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will come for your rescue.

“Arrangements can be made immediately since there are 50 people working for disaster management in each ward,” said S.S. Shinde, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Disaster Management). If it is to do with rising water levels, then the fire brigade will be intimated and reach the spot within 30 minutes. Also, in case you cannot remember the area code, you can always dial the number of any ward.

Right now, the BMC has got numbers in 6 wards from MTNL. These are: B ward (Imamwada, Dongri, Bengalipura, Princess Dock, Musafir Khana, Victoria docks) — 23794000; C ward (Bhuleshwar, Chirabazar, Mumbadevi, Dhobi Talao, Nul Bazaar) — 22014000; D ward (Malabar Hill, Rajbhavan, Bellasis chawl, Mahalaxmi, Bhatia Hospital) — 23864000; E ward (Byculla, JJ Hospital, Kamathipura) — 2308400; F-North (Sion, Wadala, Kings Circle, Matunga, Parsi Colony) — 24084000; G South (Worli, Prabhadevi, Mahalaxmi Race Course, BDD Parel chawls) — 24224000.
